INTRODUCTION

This fee free course is perfect for those who want to find out about the exciting options a career in tourism and hospitality can bring you. The qualification offers lots of variety from hospitality and cafes to customer service and team building. Successful completion means you can pathway to a Level 3 programme.

A world of discovery awaits you in hospitality, hotels, tourism and travel. Take this first step in your journey and look at the many exciting careers and opportunities available.

Teamwork

Teamwork is really important and your class will be your team throughout the course. You can join in the fun with a number of team building activities that will make your team click.

First Impressions

This module has been created to assist you in making a positive first impression throughout the course and with potential employers. Learn how to ‘shine’ so that you can stand out above the rest.

Cafes and Hospitality

Explore the café and restaurant scene and learn the basics from food hygiene to hot & cold beverages. Then in small groups use your imagination and create your very own café/restaurant along with name, logo and menu!

World Tourism Destinations

Dreaming of Cairo, New York or Rio? You will explore some of the worlds key tourist destinations, what makes them so unique and some of their cultural differences. Closer to home, learn about beautiful Rarotonga and be taken on a journey as you discover what makes the Pacific Islands such a highly sought after holiday destination.

New Zealand Tourism

Immerse yourself in New Zealand, 100% Pure NZ and Aotearoa as a destination. Look at the many types of tourists that visit and the economic, cultural and environmental impact they have on our nation. Let your creativity go wild as you sell New Zealand to other students in a Travel Expo which will bring together all you have learnt on the course.

Hotels & Resorts

Imagine stunning mountain-top hotels, idyllic beach resorts, or even beautiful African eco-lodges! This module looks at the huge variety of accommodation categories and some of the different roles in this area of the industry.

This qualification is available at most campuses fee free. Check if you are eligible by ringing a campus close to you. Once you graduate from this qualification consider going on to complete The Tourism Travel & Airline Industry Level 3 programme.

We want you to stay connected - Free wifi with no limits, and Free Office 365. You will be able to connect to Microsoft Office at any time, in any place, on any device. Update your CV or access your emails while enjoying a hot chocolate in a café. However you use it, we want you to stay connected.

Mentoring & Coaching

You will have your own personal mentor and coach throughout the course that meets with you every six weeks for a one-on-one meeting to discuss your goals, talk employment and ensure you are work ready.

Small Classes

You won't be a number or get lost in a crowd at The New Zealand School of Tourism. Small classes of around 22 means tutors will know your name and want to ensure your success every step of the way. We have had students who have started on a Level 2 course and gone right through to completing a Level 5 diploma, because of the support and encouragement of the tutoring team. Academic success is a focus for us.

ENTRY CRITERIA

At start of course applicants must:

  • Be a minimum of 17 years of age (If you are 16 you may still apply, please contact campus for details)

Note there are limited spaces for people who already hold a level 2 or higher qualification or higher. Please contact the campus directly to discuss.
