11 March 2019 – New Zealand School of Tourism (NZST) is proud to support the Tiaki promise. Tiaki is an initiative run by New Zealand and means ‘to care and protect’ in Te Reo Māori.

The Tourism School prepares over 1,600 domestic students and 100 international students for the job market in Aotearoa, New Zealand each year.
Bronwen Wilkinson, Stakeholder Development Manager said. “As the country’s largest tourism training provider, we are committed to educating our students on their responsibility to protect and safeguard our nature, land and sea.”

NZST understands the Tiaki Promise is about upholding a duty of care for the country to preserve it for generations to come. The promise covers several areas…

How we care for New Zealand:

  • Protect nature
  • Keep New Zealand clean
  • Drive carefully
  • Be prepared
  • Show respect

We consider Tiaki to be an important promise for our students as many of our graduates go on to work in professions that connect with tourists.

NZST has nine campuses across the North and South Island of New Zealand. To further spread the message, each campus has been sent Tiaki flyers and tutors are encouraged to have conversations with students about applying duty of care in all their practices.
