After 10 years in the tourism industry I found myself wanting to give back and make a difference. A friend of mine recommended that I apply for a tourism trainer role at New Zealand School of Tourism and I never looked back.
Every day is different and you have the freedom to put your own creativity to work and get the students to be engaged with you and the content. Being able to inspire, coach and mentor the next generation of tourism experts is the most rewarding career I have had to date.

The best parts of my job? Seeing students succeed by getting their dream overseas internship, local tourism role or continuing their tourism education journey with us. That coupled with the feeling of pride and joy when the students you trained graduate at the end of the year.

Teaching Aviation is something I am really passionate about, the best part about my job is seeing the personal growth in students throughout their journey at NZST. I also love seeing students in flying roles once they finish their qualification. This photo is proof your dreams can come true, 12 students featured in this photo are currently in flying roles around the world, with Emirates, Air New Zealand, Qantas and Jet Star

Courtney Rongonui – Wellington Campus

My journey as a trainer started in 2016. After previously graduating as a student and having a first-hand experience at the way trainers change lives this was an opportunity I couldn’t resist.  Being able to engage with students on a daily basis is my number one highlight, weither it be working on computer reservation systems, site visits to industry or an out of town familiarisation trips.  I love the feeling of discovery during individual or collaborative work, the array questions asked and the student’s willingness to give anything a go. Being able to inspire students to reach their potential and show them a world of opportunities available is something that never ceases to amaze me.  I am proud to say I have students working in a range of continents with carers ranging from Disney World, Ski Resorts in Canada, Hotels and Resorts, Corporate and Retail Travel Agencies, Flight Attending and Airports. Every day when I wake up I cannot believe this is my career.

We recommend Pure Kitchens Ltd for Kitchens in Hamilton, and the greater Waikato.
